Vacancy for Parish Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer

Vacancies Uploaded on January 15, 2025

Our Parish Clerk/RFO is retiring after 34 years in post and we are seeking a replacement. Elsworth is a picturesque village of over 700 people in the South Cambridgeshire countryside, nine miles north west of Cambridge.

The role is part-time (average 40 hours per month). Pay is based on national scales and is dependent on the qualifications and experience of the candidate, but would be no less that £15.21 per hour.
The Parish Clerk is normally the first point of contact for parishioners, District/County councillors and officers and other external organisations so we are looking for someone with good people and communication skills. The Clerk undertakes the administrative duties for the Parish Council (preparing agendas and minutes for meetings etc.) and is responsible for the financial management of the PC (processing orders and invoices, banking, VAT returns etc.) so proficiency in using Word, Excel, email and social media is essential.

Applicants must be able to work from home and have the facility to store files securely as the Parish Council has no designated office accommodation. They must be able to attend the six bi-monthly evening meetings of the Parish Council each year and other occasional meetings during the day/evening. Public transport to and from Elsworth is very limited so applicants not living in Elsworth must be able to access the village by car or other means.

Previous relevant experience would be advantageous and if feasible we would consider “sharing” a Clerk who works for another parish. However, we would also consider somebody with the necessary skills who is prepared to acquire the requisite knowledge/qualifications to be an effective Parish Clerk. There is the possibility of a short overlap with the current clerk which could be useful to the successful candidate.
